Website Development
I will build you a website that will fit the needs of your business. At the end of the process, you will own everything about it: code, content, hosting, domain, etc., and I will teach you how to make edits.. Web applications will use a modern, reactive framework for fast, responsive design. My go to tech stack is Next.js will help keep the site responsive and searchable, Contentful so you a place to edit the content on the website and Sendgrid to ensure you never miss a contact request. If you have anything else in mind, I am happy to discuss.
Benefits of a Custom Website
Let's start with the editing process. When using a service based on a generic template, formatting and placement of content is entirely on you. A change of adding another service or product may take two minutes to add another sentence, or two hours of fighting with containers and spacing to get things to look the same. With a customized web application and structured data, there's no fumbling with where things will go, or how it will look.
The next advantage is performance. The best way I know how to put it in non-computer terms is for most pages, the tech stack I prefer allows will function like a nonstop flight, while many alternate stacks require layovers. In technical terms, the content on the page is determined at build time rather than at run time, meaning it only queries the CMS one time and it can display the content to thousands of users. This is different from many systems that pull content from their CMS for each page load (though they usually cache it for a few minutes at a time). The result is a fast, responsive website.
The end result is a website that performs well that your potential customers will enjoy using, because an annoyed customer is more likely to look at a competitor. It also results in a website that requires significantly less effort to maintain, because you have more valuable things to do with your time than to make sure the margins on the paragraph you just wrote line up properly.
Static Landing Page
I'll build you a single page, landing page style website with static content. This is a good starting point if you want to get your site out there, but aren't ready to go all in on pages of dynamic content. I'll still be building it using the same, solid framework as a full website so it can be upgraded down the road.
What's included
- Mobile friendly
- Dark and light themes
- Static Content
- Solid entry point
Starting at
$1000
Marketing Website
A full, custom web application with up to four pages of dynamic, structured content that you can edit as you see fit. This is a great fit for any business that wants to be agile and adaptable in our fast moving world.
What's included
- Reactive web application
- Light and dark theme
- Up to four pages
- You own your data
Starting at
$2500
Managed Website Content
If you would like, after I build your website, I can maintain the site's content for you. The base price allows for one round of content updates per year. Taking this approach will save you from needing to set up Contentful on your own. This option is great for a business whose content does not change frequently and which does not have a dedicated employee for managing digital marketing. When your business grows to where you are ready to maintain it yourself, we will take care of the necessary setup and transition your data over at that time. I will not use this to hold your data hostage. It is worth noting, this price does not include adding new features (such as another page) and does not include the initial build fee, this is for storing the data, refreshing it as discussed and "keeping the lights on" for the website.
What's included
- Annual content update
- Still your data, I'm just your curator
- One less thing on your mind
Starting at
$500
per year
What to expect
The first thing we will want to do is meet up to discuss your needs. This will likely take place over some form of video chat (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.), I'm happy to be flexible and use whichever tool will work best for you. Once we come to an understanding on what your needs are, get a list of requirements and timeline worked out that we both agree to and settle on a price that is fair for both of us, I will ask for half of the total up front. My preference would be to accept payment via Stripe, and so I would send an invoice from there. Once the down payment is received, I'll work with you to set up the accounts you will need for hosting the application and the content. Once those are set up, I'll start working on building the application layout and the structured content models and building out the framework of the application.
Finally, after the framework is built based on the requirements and some placeholder content is in, we'll aside some time for us to go through the pages and show you how to edit the content on each page. At this point, the website (the code, content and hosting) will be all yours. I'll send a final invoice for the remaining balance. I provide two months of support included in the price. Support includes handling any bugs that appear or answering how-to questions, but it does not include new features. If new features are necessary, that will be a different discussion I'm very happy to have, but it will have its own price tag.
You own it
I want to highlight again, when I am done, the website belongs to you. If you decide you want more features, but I am unable to fit them in my schedule, you will have the code and can take it to any engineer you see fit to add the feature. If you decide to replace all the photos on the page with images of cats, I will show you how it is done. This is the major service I wish to provide: a custom web application that performs like an F-22 Raptor that you are not dependent on me for maintenance.
